indiana covered bridge Covering more than 36,000 square miles, Indiana is a midwestern state which is bounded on the south by the Ohio River and on the northwest by Lake Michigan.  Its terrain is mostly fertile farmland, rising in the south to rolling hills.  Its capital is Indianapolis and its other major cities include Fort Wayne, Evansville, and Gary.

Indianapolis has a newly revitalized downtown core and an appealing cost of living coupled with higher than average salaries.  High-tech, agriculture, and pharmaceutical industries are in the lead here, but they are closely followed by financial services, publishing, software companies, and industrial automation.  Professional sports and college sports are a big part of the culture, as are IndyCar, NASCAR, and Formula One events hosted by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  Downtown holds the NCAA Hall of Fame and a fairly good arts and cultural scene.  Located in northeastern Indiana, Fort Wayne is largely commercial and industrial with a small town feel.  Cost of living is low, as are home prices, and community pride is high.  Evansville is located in the far southwest of Indiana, on the Ohio River, with a modern downtown.  Manufacturing and service businesses are the main staple here, and crime and cost of living are both low.  Gary is located in Indiana's extreme northwest, along Lake Michigan.  It used to be a major center for steel, and the industrial feel of the city still remains.  Cost of living is low, and a commuter rail reaches Chicago in less than an hour.
