florida keys bridge Florida is a southeastern state comprised mainly of a peninsula.  Its area is over 58,000 square miles and its capital is Tallahassee.  The terrain is fairly level throughout the state.  Citrus fruits are a major agricultural crop and the leading industry is tourism.  Leading Florida cities include Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville and Miami.

Located on the Florida Panhandle, the capital city of Tallahassee is home to Florida State University and Florida A&M, and is a laid-back college town showcasing tree-lined streets and southern hospitality.  Tallahassee is a regional trade and agriculture center, with government, high tech, and manufacturing components in the economy as well.  The city is home to the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory, and General Dynamics Land Systems has manufacturing operations here.

The city of Orlando became well known as a major tourist destination with the 1971 opening of Walt Disney World, and has since developed a tourist industry second only to Las Vegas.  Orlando is home to retirees, families, and working professionals in high-tech industries, offering a reasonable cost of living with plenty of amenities and year round sunshine.  The Tampa metropolitan area includes St. Petersburg and Clearwater, all surrounding Tampa Bay.  Tampa's metropolitan area is business-friendly with excellent transportation and plenty of amusement parks, museums, professional sports venues, and beaches.  The large commercial and financial center of Jacksonville has a modern downtown and noteworthy waterfront area.  It is economically diverse, and located in close proximity to the historic area of St. Augustine.  Miami is the commercial and cultural hub of Florida and is greatly influenced by Latin America.  It is a well-known resort and retirement area, but import/export and international financial trade are a larger part of the economy than tourism.  Although cost, crowding, and crime can be concerns, Miami has no shortage of recreational and cultural activities.
