adobe building new mexico Covering more than 121,000 square miles, New Mexico is located in the southwest.  The Continental Divide crosses the state in a north-south direction and the terrain is high and dry.  Santa Fe is the capital and Albuquerque is another notable city.

Located in north central New Mexico, Santa Fe is a tourist attraction known for its unique blend of Spanish, European, and Native American cultures.  It has a significant arts and culture presence with over 250 art galleries, distinctive architecture, and a historic old town with a plaza, craft market, and restaurants.  Many buildings and homes are built in the "Santa Fe" style, which is a blend of Spanish and Pueblo Indian adobe characteristics.  The climate is relatively mild year round, and plenty of outdoor recreational opportunities exist in the nearby national forest and ski areas.  Santa Fe draws performing and visual artists, as well as an affluent and educated population.  Tourism is a big supporter of the economy and cost of living is high.  Albuquerque is New Mexico's largest city.  The sunny climate is a plus year round, as are the favorable tax climate and the relatively stable economy.  Many tech-related companies boost the economy, and the arts and culture scene is favorable.  Albuquerque is also home to the University of New Mexico, which contributes to employment and adds a college town feel.  The crime rate tends to be somewhat high in certain areas and rapid growth has led to urban sprawl.
