Real Estate Markets • Remodeling For Resale • Location Factor![]() In western New Jersey along the Delaware River, Trenton is a city of contrasts. It contains well-preserved historic districts dating back to the Revolutionary War, along with impoverished commercial and industrial areas. The economy is supported by the state government as well as manufacturing, trade, and service industries. Trenton's cost of living is moderate, and its location renders it a convenient commute via road or rail to much of the northeast corridor along U.S. 1. Trenton is located 15 miles southwest of Princeton, home to the Ivy League college of the same name. Atlantic City is a beach city on the southern New Jersey shore which features plenty of gambling and entertainment opportunities. This popular resort area went into decline after World War II, but was partially revived with the legalization of gambling in the late 1970s. Atlantic City's Boardwalk is a both a piece of history and a popular place to take a stroll. Cost of living is high relative to income, and arts and culture are somewhat lacking, but the climate is ocean-moderated and favorable most of the year. Newark is located in northern New Jersey, west of New York City. The large downtown area is a gritty industrial center, but it has one of the most convenient airports for access to New York City, and its proximity is a plus. Newark's surrounding counties in northern and central New Jersey have diverse economies, headquartering several pharmaceutical and Fortune 500 companies. The area attracts an educated population and has a high cost of living. Across from Lower Manhattan and the Hackensack Bay lies Jersey City, which is a transportation center and port of entry. Distribution, manufacturing, and service industries such as commercial real estate also help support the economy. Jersey City is one of the most racially diverse cities in the world, and its proximity to New York City is convenient for commuting.
