wisconsin dairy farm This northern midwest state covers more than 56,000 square miles and features extensive forest cover, many lakes in the north, and a robust dairy industry.  The capital city is Madison; other notable cities include Milwaukee and Green Bay.

In south-central Wisconsin, Madison is an attractive, progressive, and well-planned city.  It is home to the University of Wisconsin and is surrounded by Lake Medota and Lake Monona which provide the area with recreational opportunities.  The downtown is walkable and has many buildings of architectural interest.  The local economy is supported by state government and the university, as well as biotech and software firms.  Madison has always ranked well in comparative studies of places to live and work, with cold winters ranking as one of the only downsides.

Milwaukee is located in the extreme southeast of Wisconsin along Lake Michigan.  It is a commercial and cultural center which has experienced some decline but is on the rebound due to modest revitalization efforts.  The local economy is bolstered by manufacturers, banks, service companies, and insurance firms.  Milwaukee has plenty of arts and culture as well as good transportation services, but the winter climate is harsh and parts of the city are still in disrepair.  At the head of Green Bay in northeastern Wisconsin is Green Bay, a paper, manufacturing, agriculture, and dairy town.  Green Bay is a mid-size city with a small town feel that is fiercely proud of their NFL team, the Green Bay Packers.  Plenty of outdoor recreation exists in areas to the north and west, but the harsh winter climate and relative isolation are some downsides.
