oklahoma city Located in southwest central USA, Oklahoma's area is nearly 70,000 square miles.  Bounded on the south by the Red River, its terrain rises from lowlands in the east to high plains in the west.  Oklahoma City is the capital and Tulsa is another major city.

Oklahoma City is Oklahoma's largest city and a major center for the oil industry.  Much of the city had experienced decline during economic downturns, but revitalization has helped clean up the downtown area and create some attractive parks and an entertainment district.  Downtown Oklahoma City now features a canal and promenade, as well as a library, an art museum, a science museum, a performing arts center, a zoo, and several new sports facilities.  Just south of Oklahoma City is the University of Oklahoma, which helps bring a college town atmosphere to the city.  The local economy is dominated by the oil industry, followed by state government as well as small manufacturing and service businesses.  The cost of living is low, but the area is susceptible to severe storms and summer heat, and urban growth has led to sprawl and high crime rates.  Along the Arkansas River in northeastern Oklahoma, Tulsa is a commercial and industrial center where energy is the biggest industry.  Other industries include high-tech, telecom, banking, and financial services.  Tulsa features a well-kept downtown area with parks, gardens, and museums.  High crime rates and summer heat are concerns, but the cost of living is low.
