Des Moines has a small town feel but houses a symphony, ballet, and an assortment of parks, zoos, museums, gardens, and historic attractions. The annual Iowa State Fair is a big draw, and quintessentially American. Insurance and agricultural businesses are the largest supporters of the economy and cost of living is low. Davenport and Bettendorf, Iowa, along with Moline and Rock Island, Illinois, form what is known as the "Breadbasket of America," for its location in the heart of the midwest's Corn Belt. Davenport is located in the Mississippi Valley and features a low cost of living coupled with a friendly, slower pace of life. Cedar Rapids is mainly industrial and agricultural, with a city center built upon an island at the "rapids" of the Cedar River. The downtown features an attractive waterfront area, parks, and cultural amenities. Council Bluffs is located on the Missouri River across from Omaha, Nebraska. Agriculture and manufacturing help support the economy, as do a number of casinos. The city has a few historic sites as well as museums commemorating its ties to the railroad industry.
